Sept. 21 2000Hi All, Yes it's another edition of the Real Space Newsletter. This time around we look at topics from spacenews.com. From the only chance in our life times of going to Pluto, to the Moon being for sale (no not a joke), to a more Earthly concern of the Ozone hole being the largest it's ever been. Plus more! Also, this the SAC site has been updated to include all RSNs, including this one, in the archive section. If you have any comments or ideas for your SAC team (sorry too much Olympic watching here ;-) just let CMDR Constance Sanders or myself know! Now on to the RSN...... Will NASA Go Before Pluto Freezes Over? "... by foregoing the launch of a probe to Pluto in 2004, as currently planned, mission proponents warn NASA could miss an opportunity to study the planet’s atmosphere and surface that has not presented itself since the 1740s – and won’t again until the 2230s." Antarctic Ozone Hole at Record Size "Measurements from a NASA satellite-mounted spectrometer showed the hole expanded to a record 11 million square miles (28 million square kilometers) in size on September 3. That bests, albeit not by much, a previous record set in September 1998." Moon is for sale! "Dennis Hope, a California entrepreneur who first laid claim to the entire moon in 1980, is gearing up to jack the prices of land on Earth’s lone natural satellite." To Infinity and Beyond "[NASA] has scripted a step-by-step plan to send astronauts to locales between Earth, the moon and the sun, to Mars and the asteroids, and even farther -- to the moons of several outer planets." More Ice on Mars "Researchers have spotted what they suggest is a near-surface ice reservoir, about the size of Arizona, located in the Solis Planum region, south of Mars ’ Valles Marineris." LL&P, |
